After mobs of leftist students have demanded the removal of Turning Point USA from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus, the school administration took a stand for free speech and TPUSA’s right to exist on campus.
Since their founding, UNLV TPUSA chapter members have faced harassment and provocation from other students at the school without any interference from the administration, until recently.
Mary Miller, a student government representative and vice chairwoman to the UNLV student newspaper advisory board has attacked students in the TPUSA chapter by doxxing individual members of the Turning Point USA chapter to her 1800+ Instagram followers. Miller likened their posts and political ideology to domestic terrorism from January 6, 2021 and insisted that the chapter must be removed from the UNLV campus.
The first student to be targeted by Miller was Valentina, a TPUSA Campus Coordinator and the UNLV TPUSA Chapter President. Miller took her efforts a step further by doxxing Valentina’s father as well. But Miller didn’t stop there. She began targeting other chapter leaders online, including Trevor, who resides as the UNLV TPUSA chapter’s VP, and Ryan, an active TPUSA chapter member.
Mary Miller’s actions egregiously violated UNLV’s student conduct guidelines, and a misconduct report was sent to the school, prompting administrative intervention.
In response to the controversy, the administration stated, “as a public higher education institution, UNLV cannot restrict speech or activities except in very narrow instances where speech is not protected under the First Amendment.”
Valentina, the primary victim of Miller’s aggression, said, “If there was online bullying done by a TPUSA chapter member at UNLV, the school wouldn’t hesitate to have the student removed. The student who tried to dox three of our members still hasn’t faced any consequences, even though a report for student misconduct was submitted. There is a clear double standard that exists, not only on our campus, but on all campuses.”
This is an ongoing fight for our students on UNLV’s campus, but we are so proud of them for continuing to fight for their values!
I love to see wins for our TPUSA chapters on campuses, especially when they are receiving such insane hatred from the Left. I lived that every day on my college campus. It can be so frustrating and isolating, but if you are a conservative student under attack on your campus, remember that you are never alone. The Left is very good at tacking the most extreme labels on you just because you are a conservative–but only because they want to shut you down and keep you quiet. Keep fighting for the things you believe in and sharing the conservative message on campus!
