Border czar Tom Homan has vowed that the federal government will continue carrying out immigration raids in New York City despite socialist Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the mayoral election on Tuesday.
During his campaign, Mamdani pledged to uphold New York City’s sanctuary status and prevent local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration authorities. He referred to ICE as a “rogue agency” that “has no interest in laws, no interest in order.”
“It is the actions of masked men in unmarked cars picking up Americans and New Yorkers, whether they’re going in for a regular immigration check-in or they’re just in their apartment lobby like Mahmoud Khalil,” Mamdani previously said. “And I do believe that when we think about what this country needs and a humane immigration policy that has some thought and care for law and order, that clearly is not ICE.”
Homan made clear that Mamdani’s stance will not stop federal operations. “We will continue operations. Nothing changes,” he told The Daily Wire.
Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin also criticized Mamdani’s anti-ICE position, warning it would harm the city.
“As it does every day, DHS will enforce the law, including in New York City. When sanctuary politicians ignore ICE detainers, they are protecting criminal illegal aliens at the expense of American citizens. ICE is arresting and removing barbaric criminals with prior convictions for rape, murder, drug trafficking, and instead of holding them for ICE, sanctuary politicians release them back into your communities,” she said.
McLaughlin added, “These reckless policies have deadly consequences. ICE will continue placing detainers, enforcing immigration law, and defending public safety—because every American deserves to feel safe in their own neighborhood.”
