Texas Governor Greg Abbott has signed a bill banning all transgender medical procedures for children, becoming the 18th state to pass such legislation designed to protect minors.
The new Texas law bans medical providers from performing any procedure that is intended, “for the purpose of transitioning a child’s biological sex as determined by the sex organs, chromosomes, and endogenous profiles of the child or affirming the child’s perception of the child’s sex if that perception is inconsistent with the child’s biological sex.” This includes prescribing puberty blockers and performing surgical procedures such as penectomies and mastectomies.
Texas is one of the states with the largest population of transgender people in the country. Earlier this year, a report from journalist Christopher Rufo revealed that a Houston-based children’s hospital was inserting puberty blockers into children as young as 11 years old.
The law is set to go into effect on September 1st, giving time for patients currently on puberty blockers to be weaned off their “treatment.”
As of 2021, 2.3% of Gen Z young adults identify as transgender, a percentage 20 times higher than Boomers. With the social contagion of transgenderism among youth rapidly increasing, Texas is following the footsteps of 17 other states, and even some European countries, in enacting legislation that protects minors from this propaganda.
The author of SB14’s companion bill, Representative Tom Oliverson, applauded the passing of the bill and described it as protection for children from “harmful, experimental medical and surgical treatments for gender dysphoria.”
LGBT activist groups, however, are voicing strong opposition to Texas’ protection of minors. Emmett Schelling, executive director of the Transgender Education Network of Texas, rebutted the Governor’s signing of the law by labeling it as “cruelty.”
“It’s not shocking that this governor would sign SB14 right at the beginning of Pride,” Schelling said. “However, this will not stop trans people from continuing to exist with authenticity — as we always have.”
While the Texas bill is expected to face legal pushback from LGBT groups, it is a step in the right direction because of its attempt to protect children who have been grossly misguided by the society around them.
