Throughout the past month, several protests have erupted throughout the US to demonstrate against the operations of ICE throughout the country. Lately, these protests have expanded to US high school campuses in the form of mass walkouts.
Frontlines TPUSA reporter Jonathan Choe discovered what groups may be behind these trending protests. For instance, the National Education Association and other teachers’ unions are “pulling the strings” of these protests. These walkouts are being orchestrated in order “to raise up the next generation of activists they can use and deploy for any cause,” Choe noted.
Some leaders in the Florida Teachers’ Union have affirmed that students have the right to protest during school hours, according to the First Amendment to the US Constitution.
“I don’t think this has anything to do with ICE, I think this is just the latest cause d’jour,” radio host Ari Hoffman told Choe. He also believes that students are being used as “foot soldiers” by school teachers and organizations.
Peter Mitchell, a parent in Issaquah, Washington, accompanied his daughter to a walkout protest. She has been concerned with the way in which ICE has conducted its operations, her father said. However, he found the protest to be a learning experience, with the daughter not finding much agreeable with the protesters’ motives and rhetoric.
“Kids don’t really know what imperialism is. My daughter did but, she’s like ‘I don’t really agree with what they’re talking about.’ Anyhow, as far as learning goes, that was great!” he exclaimed.
