Self-Love is Turning Vain and Dangerous

I recently came across the following video, which made me so deeply sad. Watch here:

Let’s give some hard love here first: this video is pathetic. But I have two major concerns we should focus on.

First, the self-love movement is turning vain. The definition of vain is “having or showing an excessively high opinion of one’s appearance, abilities, or worth.” And no, not in a good way. It’s one thing to be confident in yourself and your abilities as an individual. It’s an entirely other thing to be obsessed with yourself the way this young woman is.

And I share this video of this one woman as just an example. You and I both know she’s not alone in her behavior. We are seeing a complete deterioration of character and moral code in our population, and I believe it’s an absolute shame.

Second, the self-love movement has become dangerous. And that’s especially true considering the last two-plus years of you-know-what happening around the globe. The science is clear: when you are not overweight or obese, and when you take good care of your body on the inside and out, you will be safer, stronger, and happier. Especially during a pandemic.

Unfortunately, in the years leading up to this health crisis, our media, pop culture, and schools pushed a message that encouraged unhealthy habits and lifestyles onto our society.

In my opinion, Americans are weak in many ways: physically, morally, spiritually, and mentally. If we become better individuals by working to improve ourselves in these areas, I believe our families, communities, and country as a whole will benefit greatly.

“Turning Point USA is the fastest-growing youth movement in America, and they have a potential to play a decisive role in shaping our country for decades to come.”

- Senator Ted Cruz
