Members of the Roanoke College women’s swim team have been personally impacted by the NCAA decision to allow males who identify as females to compete in the women’s category. At the start of the school year, the female swimmers were told that a male, who formerly competed on the men’s team, planned to join their team.

After the trans-swimmer was poised to join the team, the women were forced to participate in several meetings regarding their new teammate. Anyone who opposed the idea of their new teammate competing against women was promptly harassed, according to the female swimmers. The New York Post reported, “Captains of the Roanoke College sophomore, junior, and senior swim squads — Kate Pearson, 19, Lily Mullens, 20, and Bailey Gallagher, 21 — said the issue has torn their Division III team apart and that they feel abandoned by the school, their coach and the NCAA. They also said they were made to feel guilt and blame for not wanting a biological male on the team when it was not their intent to be unkind.”

“I never expected to be blindsided by a teammate from the men’s team who now wanted to compete against me and my fellow swimmers and shatter our records,” Gallagher told the Post, adding that initially, she was supportive of the male swimmer’s “transition.”

Allowing men to compete against women has no athletic or competitive benefit, it will destroy statistics, records, and the ability of women to become professional athletes. Although the male swimmer ultimately chose not to join the female team, the pain and harassment the women tolerated was unforgivable.

According to published, peer-reviewed data from the American Physiological Society, scientists have identified over 3,000 genes that are differentially expressed in male and female skeletal muscle. Due to these differences, males have the physical ability to dominate in female sports, and the results are disastrous for biological women.

The contrast is even more evident in high-contact sports, such as MMA, where women have been severely injured by men. In high school track and field, females are consistently losing races to males who identify as the opposite sex, which means a loss of coveted and often-needed college scholarships, financial aid, and admissions. On a college level, this could mean losing a trip to the Olympics or setting world records within their gender category.

The women of Roanoke swimming have gained support from other female activists since speaking out against male competitors in female sports. At a recent press conference urging the NCAA to protect women’s sports, the ladies were joined by former University of Pennsylvania swimmer Paula Scanlan and 12-time NCAA All-American swimmer Riley Gaines, both of whom were impacted by competing against and being forced to undress next to male swimmer Lia Thomas.

Science simply disagrees with the progressive idea that males and females are interchangeable. This is not a statement of inequality. It is not a statement of superiority. It is a statement of fact that should be cause for celebration, not bullying.
