POWER OF THE PEOPLE: TPUSA to Host Event Featuring Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro

Turning Point USA is excited to announce “Power of the People,” an event featuring former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
“Power of the People” will take place on February 3 in Miami, Florida at the Trump National Doral Miami. The event will take place from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, with doors opening at 4:00 pm. Registration is done on a first-come, first-serve basis and will close when capacity has been reached. The event, which features both the former President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro and TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk, will discuss socialism, the political state of Brazil, and so much more!
President Bolsonaro has been in U.S. news recently after he applied for a six-month tourist visa to remain in the country. The former Brazilian president has temporarily resided in Florida since December when he was admitted to the hospital due to abdominal discomfort, a medical issue related to a stab wound he’s had since being attacked at a political rally in 2018.
Since being discharged from the hospital, Bolsonaro has continued to remain in the United States. Felipe Alexandre, Bolsonaro’s immigration lawyer, stated that the former president wishes to “clear his head and enjoy being a tourist in the United States for a few months before deciding what his next step will be.”
Bolsonaro’s request to temporarily stay in the United States is in the midst of the Brazilian government investigating him for any alleged wrongdoing following the massive protests that broke out across the country after his election loss. Following the election of current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, supporters of Bolsonaro protested the election results, questioning the credibility and security of the country’s voting process. Bolsonaro responded by denouncing any violence among his supporters, but the Brazilian Supreme Court approved a request for prosecutors to investigate Bolsonaro for any potential involvement in these protests.
In response to Bolsonaro’s visa request, a number of congressmen have signed a letter to President Biden, calling for his administration to deny Bolsonaro a visa. In their letter, they stated that “the United States must not provide shelter for him, or any authoritarian who has inspired such violence against democratic institutions.”
