NYC Tax-Payers to Fund Nearly 6,000 Hotel Rooms for Illegal Immigrants

New York City’s Department of Social Services has requested a total of 6,000 rooms at four-star hotels to shelter illegal immigrants arriving in the city from the southern border. States Arizona and Texas recently started offering free bus rides for illegal immigrants to New York City due to it’s self-declared “sanctuary city” status. The city prides itself on safeguarding illegal immigrants from arrest and deportation by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.
Texas and Arizona have been overrun with a massive influx of illegal crossings over the past two years, which has depleted their resources. Despite the border wall being paid for, the materials have sat idle at the construction zone for now two years. Desperate to relieve border towns, Arizona Governor Greg Abbott has even attempted to create a shipping container barrier along the border.
Fox News reported on the bussing tactic, “Abbott’s office said Friday that it has so far bused more than 7,000 migrants to D.C. since April and has now sent more than 900 migrants this month. Arizona has bused over 1,000 migrants to Washington D.C. and has denied sending migrants to New York City.”
New York City will now spend citizen’s tax dollars to house illegal immigrants. Because, despite the fact that NYC claims to be sanctuary city, they did not plan to ever actually be put in a situation where they would have to directly face the consequences of an open southern border.
Yes, New Yorker’s hard-earned money, from long hours spent away from family, doing the right thing, is going towards rewarding people who break the law.
A recent study on available apartments in NYC found that “34% of units on the market last quarter can be attributed to tenants forced to move after being hit by steep rent increases, sometimes totaling in the thousands of dollars each month, after being wooed by bargains, according to the analysis.” Most people cannot afford to live in New York City and yet receive nothing but tax hikes to fund programs such as this.
Meanwhile, illegal immigrants are being put up at high-end hotels such as the Row NYC which is located on 8th Avenue and costing at minimum nearly $1,000 per, and the Skyline Hotel, located downtown on 10th Avenue at a similar price point.
New York City and Washington D.C. have enjoyed declaring themselves safe havens for immigrants, and it is finally time for them to put their money where their mouth is. Unfortunately, it is American citizens footing the bill.
