Chris Schulte, a psychology professor at Coastal Carolina Community College, has come under fire for making personal attacks toward Charlie Kirk during one of his classes.

The professor, whose comments were recorded by a student, was also reacting to the presence of a new TPUSA chapter at the college.

“Did he deserve to die?” he said of the late Kirk. “No, but he was a racist piece of sh*t, and Turning Point USA is a racist piece of sh*t organization, and I will say it, and they just started a group on this campus.”

“And in the country that supposedly believed in freedom of everything, I mean, wasn’t that the whole stupid Charlie Kirk thing?” he continued. “Why people were getting fired because they…didn’t like him? That he’s a First Amendment warrior? Isn’t that why professors got fired for saying he was a racist piece of sh*t? Which he was.”

According to WITN, Schulte issued a statement addressing the events that took place after the comments went public Wednesday, lamenting what he claims is a threat to his academic freedom under the US Constitution, the safety of his own life, and American democracy.

“Today, campus security had to escort me to my car because threats were made against me at my workplace after I spoke out for academic freedom and called out racism and censorship where I saw it,” he stated. “I spoke passionately on that topic because I care deeply about this country and I’m concerned about protecting constitutional freedoms, especially the First Amendment that defines it. Today’s events only reinforced why those protections matter. In an attempt to bring awareness to the censorship of faculty happening at UNC – Chapel Hill with secret recordings, I was secretly recorded by a student. It is a sad statement about our country right now that my comments would elicit threats not just on my career, but also my life.”
