Rapper Nicki Minaj publicly praised President Donald Trump after he called attention to the persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
On Friday, Trump posted on Truth Social, writing, “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter.” He added, “The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other countries. We stand ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world!”
Minaj responded on Saturday by sharing a screenshot of Trump’s post on X, expressing that it gave her a “deep sense of gratitude” for living “in a country where we can freely worship God.”
“No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other,” Minaj wrote. “Numerous countries all around the world are being affected by this horror & it’s dangerous to pretend we don’t notice.”
“Thank you to The President & his team for taking this seriously. God bless every persecuted Christian. Let’s remember to lift them up in prayer,” she added.
US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz thanked Minaj on X for using her platform “to speak out in defense of the Christians being persecuted in Nigeria.” Waltz also invited Minaj to visit the US Embassy in New York to discuss “what the Trump administration is doing to protect Christians’ freedoms all over the world.”
“I’d be honored. Thank you, Ambassador,” Minaj replied.
Minaj’s comments were widely praised online, with many users commending her for drawing attention to the violence against Christians in Nigeria. Christians in the country have been brutally murdered at church services, and entire villages have been burned to the ground by Islamist groups.
In his Truth Social post, the president declared that he would designate Nigeria as a “country of particular concern.”
