I’m Leaving California — and I’m Not Alone

In 2021 over 360,000 people left California for a myriad of reasons, but I’m leaving for one: I could no longer justify living under tyrannical leftist diktats. Since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, California immediately implemented restrictions to separate family members, keep children out of school, close businesses, fine churches who remained open, and more. I decided to move to a state that better represented my values — Florida.

From April 2020 to April 2021, 329,717 individuals moved to Florida from other sates. Just in the first few months of 2022, 55% more people moved to the Sunshine State than in 2019. Just recently, I decided to join the hundreds of thousands of people who have made the choice to call Florida their new home.

The country is undergoing a major shift, people are no longer staying in liberal cities and states, even if their families have lived there for generations. Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Louis Brandeis popularized the notion that states are “laboratories of democracy” stating, “a state may, if its citizens choose, serve as a laboratory; and try novel social and economic experiments without risk to the rest of the country.”

The statement, though applicable in most instances, doesn’t address the problem of state overreach — only federal. In their defense, I’m not sure that the framers of our Constitution could have predicted individual states would ever become oppressive over their citizenry. California went so far as to close churches across the state, fortunately, the churches filed suit against the restrictions and were victorious.

Personally, California was no longer worth the trouble, the safety concerns, the constant worry that my freedoms would be take away.

I am so thankful and excited to be living in the state of Florida, a place that values independence, individual choice, is pro-business, and pro-America.
