Harvard University Groups Condemn Israel, Issue Pro-Palestine Statement

Student groups at Harvard University have found themselves in the midst of controversy after co-signing a letter blaming Israel for the recent terrorist attacks carried out by the Palestinian group Hamas.

In response to the current conflict between Israel and Palestine, the Harvard Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee authored a statement to “hold the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence” and characterized Israel as an “apartheid regime” deserving of sole blame for the ongoing conflict. The letter was promptly co-signed by 33 student organizations at the university.

“We, the undersigned student organizations, hold the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence,” the letter stated. “Today’s events did not occur in a vacuum. … The apartheid regime is the only one to blame.”

The controversial statements made in this letter were immediately met with backlash due to their factual inaccuracies and omission of the role played by Hamas, a Palestinian group, in the recent hostilities. The Hamas attacks have been widely reported over the weekend. Images have surfaced of barbaric attacks on innocent women, children, and even babies in Israel. To say that Israel is “the only one to blame” is absurd.

Following the release of this statement, the Harvard Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee claimed on Instagram that its account has been temporarily suspended.

Harvard University responded to the situation by expressing its condolences for the victims of the Hamas attacks and acknowledging the ongoing conflict in Israel and Gaza. The University said that it was “heartbroken” by “the attack by Hamas that targeted citizens in Israel this weekend, and by the war in Israel and Gaza now under way.”

Often you hear trans-activists on college campuses argue that they feel “unsafe” because their fellow classmates refuse to use “preferred pronouns” and instead choose to acknowledge biological reality. But what about students who are on campuses where groups are actively siding and supporting terrorist groups seeking the death of as many Jews as possible?
