The CEO of a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) company contracted by the US Department of Education said that the American flag is a “hate symbol,” according to a report from Fox News.

Dr. Nancy Dome is the CEO of Epoch Education, which promotes the core values of critical race theory to countless educators across the nation. The organization’s YouTube videos espouse ideas such as whiteness and white privilege are real and color blindness is an insufficient way to see the world.

In one video posted to Epoch Education’s Vimeo account, Dome reportedly said she believed the American flag has become a symbol of “hate” and “extremism.” The video is no longer available following the Fox News report.

Epoch is considered a “national leader” in DEI training and works with at least five major public schools. Each district ranges in size from 40,000 to 70,000 students, all of whom must adopt an “equity agenda.” Among the education organizations listed on Epoch’s website is the US Department of Education.

Epoch Education makes no qualms about its beliefs. Several YouTube videos explain the company’s belief that race is the chief factor in all aspects of life, from politics to day-to-day interactions.

“Racist hierarchical structures influence all political, economic, and social domains, including schools,” a September 2020 video states.

Part of Epoch Education’s core training for teachers and administrators includes an exercise called the “Color Line,” wherein staff members identify how privileged they are. Employees take a quiz to uncover their level of privilege, staff who score closer to zero are more oppressed and staff who score closer to 125 are the most privileged.

“Once the scores are calculated, participants line up in the room according to their numbers, creating a powerful representation of the color line,” Dome said. “It’s called the color line because almost without exception, the darkest people in the room will be closest to zero.”
