HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!

For the last year, I have been DYING to go offshore fishing in Texas. Little did I know that fishing offshore in Texas meant going 180 miles out from the coast and sleeping on a boat!

And let me tell you… IT WAS AWESOME!

When traveling off the Texas coast you have to go further to get to deep water, unlike Florida where you only have to go about 20 miles offshore to get to the same depths.

On the first day, we made sure to stay close to the shore to make sure everyone could handle being on a boat (cause motion sickness is a real thing! thank goodness I don’t have that problem). We caught some bait fish for the next several days. We also got into some red snapper that we made into ceviche for dinner that night.

The next day we set off to the deep waters! After about a five-hour boat ride, we finally arrived at a big offshore rig where we spent the rest of the night fishing. The rig sight was fascinating; it was like a city in the middle of the ocean. This was the perfect spot because fish like to stay near structures.

The rest of the night was spent reeling in Blackfin and Yellowfin tuna…. And lemme tell ya HOLY ARM WORKOUT! I thought I was reeling in Megalodon…. It was a 50-pound tuna!

It was such a cool experience to make fresh tuna on the boat for dinner! That’s what I call catch and eat!

I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday trip with my girls! Here’s to another 365 days of memories!!
