LAPD Tells Citizens To “Cooperate and Comply” With Robbers As Crime Rates Increase
According to NBC Los Angeles, as of June 2021, 141 people have been murdered. This is a 22% increase over the same period in 2020. Six hundred people have been struck by gunfire in shootings in 2021, a 59% increase over this time last year. Making matters worse, the LAPD recently released a statement telling citizens being robbed not to resist the robbery suspects. They were told to “cooperate and comply” with their demands and be a “good witness.”
The message from the Governor, Mayor, District Attorney, and Police Chief shouldn’t be to defer to criminals. Instead, the statement should clarify that the city takes crime seriously, that criminals will be prosecuted vigorously, and that police presence will be increased city-wide. Sadly, in a far-left state that has some of the strictest gun laws in the country and one of the most lenient prosecutions of criminals, this is what happens.
The vicious problem in Los Angeles becomes circular in nature. Criminals aren’t afraid of committing robbery because they know that the homeowners will comply and are likely unarmed. Additionally, they know that the pro-criminal District Attorney, George Gascon, will treat them favorably. Therefore they are emboldened, unafraid, and will continue to commit more crimes.
Soft-on-crime policies are always enacted in the name of justice. In no world is it just to be forced to cater to criminals on your own property.
