Beverly Hills Store bans Masks Indoors to Reduce Robberies

According to KTLA local news, a Beverly Hills store is banning masks indoors in response to a string of robberies in the area.

“The owner of Kitson, located on Robertson Boulevard, says that they’ve noticed an increase in people looking to steal while wearing masks to avoid being identified. They say people have also been coming into the store to harass and even physically assault others while also wearing face masks. Employees there say the abundance of masks mixed with a rising number of brazen robberies and regular shoplifting has made the job a lot harder.”

While mask mandates across the country have largely been dismissed, Los Angeles County is still recommending masks for indoor settings. This store however, now has to ignore those recommendations due to the rampant crime ensuing across the city.

California was, and still is, one of the most restrictive states in the country regarding the pandemic, the state implemented extremely harsh COVID-19 mandates. Now this store has no choice but to ignore the state’s recommendations to deal with brazen theft that is practically incentivized. To be clear, there shouldn’t be mask requirements in the first place. However it is ironic that this California business is removing its requirement for a problem that the state itself has caused.

During COVID-19, we watched Los Angeles stores looted and burned to the ground. Where was law enforcement? The city’s refusal to crack down on criminals has incentivized people to commit more crimes. Now, the mask ban is unlikely to make much of a difference in deterring robberies. After Los Angeles reduced punishments for robberies, including reducing theft under $950 to a misdemeanor, sites like this are not uncommon to see:

Los Angeles is a breeding ground for crime. It’s inevitable when you cram way too many people into a city, raise prices on everyday goods, then refuse to enforce any crime that occurs.
