The US Department of Agriculture announced the appointment of a former seed oil lobbyist as the agency’s Chief of Staff.

Kailee Tkacz Buller worked as the President and CEO of the National Oilseed Processors Association and the Edible Oil Producers Association. She also worked as a lobbyist for the snack industry trade group, SNAC International, according to The Federalist

Buller also worked with the Corn Refiners Association, another trade association behind junk food ingredients such as high fructose corn syrup. Products such as high fructose corn syrup are considered the primary cause of the obesity crisis in America, according to Hartford Healthcare

Such products contribute to heart disease, diabetes, fatty liver disease, and abnormal levels of cholesterol and other fats in the blood. It also produces bloating and gas.

Many are noting that the appointment of a seed oil lobbyist is counterproductive to the new administration’s promise to “Make America Health Again.” The goal of the abbreviated “MAHA” movement is to eliminate corporate influence over the federal government agencies that regulate food and medicine. This includes the Department of Agriculture.

The administration’s current pick to lead the Department of Health and Human Services is Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has repeatedly condemned seed oils as drivers of obesity and chronic disease.

“The foods consist primarily of processed sugar, ultra-processed grains, and seed oils,” Kennedy said in a speech begrudging the current state of healthcare in America. He proceeded to slam the “laboratory scientists” who “worked for the cigarette industry which purchased all the big food companies in the 1970s and 80s.”

“We are mass poisoning all of our children,” Kennedy said.

A close source to Kennedy told The Federalist that the president’s latest choice of a seed oil lobbyist to serve in this capacity was a “slap in the face to the MAHA movement.”

“Turning Point USA is the fastest-growing youth movement in America, and they have a potential to play a decisive role in shaping our country for decades to come.”
