DHS ‘Claws Back’ FEMA Payment for Migrant Housing in Luxury NYC Hotels

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has “clawed back” the entire $59 million payment that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) had allocated for housing illegal immigrants in luxury hotels in New York City.
A DHS spokesperson confirmed the decision in a statement to Fox News reporter Bill Melugin, stating that DHS Secretary Kristi Noem had taken action to recover the funds.
“Secretary Noem has clawed back the full payment that FEMA deep state activists unilaterally gave to NYC migrant hotels. There will not be a single penny spent that goes against the interest and safety of the American people,” the statement read.
Noem later confirmed the move on X, writing: “I have clawed back the full payment that FEMA deep state activists unilaterally gave to NYC migrant hotels. FEMA was funding the Roosevelt Hotel that serves as a Tren de Aragua base of operations and was used to house Laken Riley’s killer.”
“Mark my words: there will not be a single penny spent that goes against the interest and safety of the American people,” Noem added.
The action follows a report from Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team, which discovered that FEMA had issued the payment last week to cover migrant housing in upscale New York City hotels.
“The @DOGE team just discovered that FEMA sent $59M LAST WEEK to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants,” Musk revealed on X. “Sending this money violated the law and is in gross insubordination to the President’s executive order. That money is meant for American disaster relief and instead is being spent on high end hotels for illegals! A clawback demand will be made today to recoup those funds.”
In addition to the recovery of funds, Noem announced the firing of four FEMA employees, including FEMA Chief Financial Officer Mary Comans, for being part of the payment authorization.
