The University of Notre Dame Has Gone FULL Woke
The University of Notre Dame, traditionally a well-known Catholic and conservative institution of higher education, has gone full woke in recent years. Growing up Catholic, my dream was to attend the University of Notre Dame and become a part of the Fighting Irish family–but God had other plans, and my life was redirected to many other blessings!
Notre Dame today, however, is not the school I loved and dreamed of as a child–it is leading the way for social justice education and Leftist indoctrination. Father Jenkins, President of the University, recently announced the school would be covering up historic murals of Christopher Columbus to be more politically correct, saying, “Let us seize this moment to make Notre Dame, even more, a force for good.” In addition to covering the murals, the school announced it would be establishing a Trustee Task Force on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, “formulating plans for recruitment and retention of diverse faculty,” and “deepening conversations about race and diversity” in the community. In 2019, they even hosted an event about “Confronting Whiteness,” during which participants focused “on confronting whiteness, power, identity, and exclusion at Notre Dame.”
Last October, the school announced it would be ending coverage through its insurance plan for contraceptives and abortifacients, only to reverse course a week later and promise to cover both students and faculty. The school’s insurance provider, Meritain Health, additionally promised to continue funding contraception coverage indefinitely.
That’s not all, though. Get this–for several years, the university has been considering rescinding its well-known theology and philosophy requirements for students.
Catholic with a capital “C” refers to the Church, but more importantly, the Catholic Church is built on the foundation of the word catholic with a little “c,” which means “universal.” Unfortunately, universal acceptance and teaching, which should be the highest priority for any Catholic University (and especially for the nation’s most prominent one), seems to be a priority lacking at the University of Notre Dame.
The path toward Critical Race Theory, secular education, and acceptance of abortion are not in line with the values of Catholic teaching. It will only serve to harm the Notre Dame community now and in the future.
Notre Dame University has also mandated vaccines on campus, which will undoubtedly harm the Notre Dame community. A student who wishes to be left unnamed has experienced extreme mental abuse and pressure due to the vaccine mandates that Notre Dame. Due to the student’s previous medical conditions and having already been exposed to COVID-19 around Thanksgiving, he did not want to get the vaccine. Because of this, the student received verbal and mental abuse, including shame, segregation, and intimidation. Sadly, this student ended up in the Emergency Room at the beginning of May with his first panic attack because of the forced, mandated and frankly, experimental injection. Students like this one and countless others across the nation have been severely affected by the reaction and policies at universities and businesses. The reaction has been worse than the disease itself.
It is unfortunate and concerning that students are being forced against their will to get this vaccine just to attend a university that they pay tens of thousands of dollars to attend. This is solely virtual signaling that has no foundation in science.
