The Simone Biles Drama Proves Generation “Me” Is More Sensitive Than Ever

The name on everyone’s tongues this week is Simone Biles, with the Olympic athlete shockingly pulling out of the team effort so that she could focus on her mental health. While I feel that some commentators were maybe a bit harsh on Simone, there is a point to be made here about the weakness that is so symbolic of the younger generation. Biles is a part of the “me” generation, raised on social media and coddled by a far-Left entertainment industrial complex that doesn’t hold anyone accountable for, well, anything.

Everyone is a victim. Everyone is special. Everyone is praised for, well, quitting. If Simone Biles wanted to take some time to focus on her mental health, then good for her. But what I take issue with is the amount of pressure it seems to put on the rest of us to have the “right” opinion about this. If an opinion commentator disagrees with this decision, that is his or her right. They’re not being “insensitive” or a “bully” for having an opinion about anything just because it differs from the acceptable narrative that has been set forth by the entertainment industry.

And it says something about how Biles feels about America that she put herself above her team and her country. I was talking to the Fox News host Kennedy about this in the green room before we filmed “Gutfeld” and she put it the best: Biles is so good that she could’ve easily pulled back a bit on her routine and smoked everyone else. Maybe then Team USA could’ve gotten Gold, not Silver. Instead, she put herself first. Rightly or wrongly, it says something about where America is right now – and I don’t think that it’s a good thing.

“I want to congratulate Turning Point because you’re creating a change that will affect us for decades.”
