Teacher Suspended For Criticizing Gender Policy Wins MAJOR Free Speech Case
Tanner Cross, an elementary school teacher in Virginia, made national news when he addressed his school board to criticize the proposed gender policy and was then suspended as a result.
But now, a major First Amendment victory serves as an update to the story: Cross just won a temporary injunction and the judge ordered his reinstatement as a teacher.
In his address to the board, Cross said:
“I love my students,” he said firmly, “but I will never lie to them regardless of the consequences. I’m a teacher, but I serve God first — and I will not affirm that a biological boy can be a girl and vice versa… It’s against my religion, it’s lying to a child, it’s abuse to a child, and it’s sinning against our God.”
Less than twelve hours after giving the now-viral address to the board, Cross was placed on administrative leave pending investigation. And everyone, including Cross, had the same question: an investigation into what, exactly?
A teacher committing wrong think by daring to say basic scientific facts about gender and pronouns? Apparently.
He spoke at a public meeting off-the-clock. Cross and others who have the courage to speak their minds at these school board meetings should be protected. It’s their First Amendment right.
Cross explained in an interview with Fox News, “Teachers are just like everybody else. We have political views. We have religious views. We like to advocate for those views and not be punished for it.”
Cross stood up to the woke school board, stood up to the woke administration, and he stood up to the greater issue: the growing threat of totalitarianism across our society. Even though he faced major adversity, he provides a clear path to victory in the fight we will all face ahead, and we should be thankful for his courageous case study.
