Point Loma Nazarene DENIES Turning Point USA Presence On Campus

What is happening in America?

Point Loma Nazarene University, a so-called Christian University, will not allow a Turning Point USA chapter on their campus.

Turning Point USA has the ultimate goal of preserving overall freedom in America. So why would a “Christian” university engage in such a godLESS act?

Hannah Nelson at Point Loma Nazarene University said, “When it came time for me to chose a college to attend four years ago, I knew I wanted to go to a private Christian university for the sake of not having an education rooted in liberal bias. Four years later, I discovered that type of college does not exist. I have been consistently shut down, silenced, and harassed for my views at what is considered a private Christian university which preaches about diversity and inclusion.”

In the process of starting a Turning Point chapter at this university, Hannah “obtained over one hundred names of students who are eager to participate in a chapter that promotes students from differing political ideologies to come and engage in civil dialogue.”

One of the reasons our country is GOOD is because we have discourse. Our political climate is not great right now, but we are still ABLE to talk about our differences of opinion, as free speech still stands.

Hannah adds that “after three weeks of waiting anxiously to hear our status, it only took one person in ASB to say no to shut us down completely with no appeal process. The only reasoning we received was that the national Turning Point USA promotes problematic rhetoric. The ASB Student Relations Director, Jenna Moses, and her supervisor, Scott McGowan, had no backing to their logic for denying us and ultimately admitted our rejection was solely due to the personal bias of Jenna Moses, The ASB Student Relations Director. The decision made was further supported by McGowan and he even admitted that while he agrees bias exists on campus against conservatives, he must ultimately take the side of Moses since he supervises the ASB. This is not an issue about problematic rhetoric or concrete evidence against Turning Point USA; this is an issue of personal bias in which our chapter is perceived as a threat against the narrative of the Left. We have every right to exist on campus in the capacity of all other political clubs. It is a disgrace that the PLNU ASB is able to conduct themselves in this format.”

He also added, “It’s absurd that they just gave this student (Jenna) full unanimous power to make decisions for the ASB with no appeals process. We’re fighting back.”

Point Loma allows groups such as College Democrats, College Republicans, and Young Americans for Freedom to exist, with Jenna herself claiming that they share similar “missions” to Turning Point USA. If those organizations are allowed to exist on campus, there is no logical reason why TPUSA should be barred from acceptance.

“Turning Point USA is a great outlet to get involved on your campus.”
