NYC: Urban Utopia or Dystopia?
As NYC liberal elites brag that their “urban utopia” is “BACK,” we read story after story that proves otherwise. It seems as if New York City has taken a page out of Los Angeles’s playbook. According to residents, the once beautiful and popular Washington Square Park, home to Greenwich Village residents, many NYU students, and tourists, has become a “drug den.”
Greenwich Village is known for its free spirit, liberal ideals, and marches; however, even they say this has gone too far. Washington Square Park has been completely overtaken by crack and heroin addicts, illegal sexual activity, and booming raves that go far past the park’s closing, which is midnight. In the mornings, residents report that the park is infested with trash, alcohol bottles, and syringes.
After many complaints and reports sent to the city, the city boosted the police presence at the northwest corner; however, residents report that the chaotic activity at Washington Square Park has simply shifted to the southwest corner of the park. The city’s weak actions to clean up and patrol the park have been useless.
The New York Post reports, “NYPD data shows robbery is up 73 percent this year in the 6th Precinct, which covers the park. Sex crimes have surged 36 percent. There have been two shootings –up from none last year. There have three cases of grand larceny and four felony assaults reported inside the park alone in the first quarter of 2021, before the current surge in warm-weather activity.”
Washington Square Park, a once beautiful landmark to New York City residents and tourists has completely fallen off the wagon and at this moment in time, is not safe or appealing to anyone but drug addicts, partiers, and criminals.
Elites, you deserve this. You are fooling no one. You shall live in your created utopia of filth, crime, open-air drug use, and prostitution one park at a time. Have any of your efforts effectuated change for the better?
Clearly, they have not.
