Madagascar Cartoon To Debut Their First Non-Binary Character
So how many genders are we up to now?
How many pronouns have you seen that you didn’t even know existed?
I was just introduced to zie/hir?? What does that even mean?
Ezra Menas, who identifies as non-binary and uses zie/hir/they pronouns, is thrilled because the popular Madagascar kids show has now introduced a non-binary character.
The character Odee, the Okapi, will make its debut in ‘Madagascar: A Little Wild’ in the season premiere for the third season. Ezra Menas will be the voice of Odee. The season opener will show the first non-binary character in the Pride-themed episode of “Whatever Floats Your Float.”

If you’re like me you’re probably asking what even is an Okapi?! It is a real animal that is a cross between a zebra and some sort of antelope. In reality, it is closely related to a giraffe.
I can see why they chose this animal as the non-binary character in the show, but do we really need to educate children on a subject like this at such a young age?
Menas says, “As a non-binary person, I really resonate with this. This feels spot on.” They continue, “That gave me the confidence, just knowing that these people care about the stories that they’re telling. They care about the authenticity. They care about how it’s going to impact not only non-binary youth, but people who are not non-binary learning about non-binary identities and accepting people for who they are”.
I just can’t get on board with educating our youth at such a young age about something that could affect them their entire lives. We should be educating our youth on who God created us to be and the TWO genders that He created.
What do you think about this? Let’s discuss in the comments.
