In today’s world, people are always looking for ways to boost their immune systems. Many studies have shown that being outdoors can have a positive effect on their immune system.

Here are a couple ways the outdoors can help:

  • It’s an easy way to get Vitamin D.
    • Vitamin D is important for your bones, blood cells, and immune system. During the summer months, just 5-15 minutes of being in the sunlight can help the body absorb more of certain minerals, like calcium and phosphorus.
  • It helps to reduce anxiety.
    • Plants and nature have been reported to make you feel less anxious, angry, and stressed. Your serotonin levels have also been seen to stay higher when direct sunlight is involved. This helps raise your energy and keeps your mood calm, positive, and focused.
  • Your sleep cycle is shown to improve.
    • Your internal clock is affected by the cells in your eyes. When you have that early morning sunlight, it helps to get you to sleep at night.
  • Your ability to focus improves.
    • Studies have shown that not only does physical activity help with your focus, but the “greenness” of being in the outdoor space helps as well. One study found that kids with ADHD benefited more from walking in the park than walking in an urban area.

These are just a couple of ways being outdoors can help boost an immune system, but there are so many other benefits as well!

Who’s ready to get up and get outside for a little bit?
