As we approach 2021, a critical problem remains regarding politicians’ concerns with reopening America–how do we have enough tests available for every person exposed to COVID-19?

Researchers are developing a new test option in which those needing a COVID-19 test could administer a rapid self-test at home, which could provide results in just minutes with a 98-99% accuracy rate.

Recently, Dr. Michael Mina, an assistant professor of epidemiology and immunology at Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health, shared his hope in manufacturing these tests at a panel event with The Heritage Foundation. Under Dr. Mina’s projections, if only half of the United States were to use these self-administered tests and self-quarantine after a positive result, we would see an “exponential” decline in cases.

The rapid nature of these at-home tests could mean less exposure from a positive patient to other individuals, limiting the spread of the virus.

To get approval for manufacturing tests like this off the ground involves Congressional support for funding and government approval for clinical use. Perhaps our politicians should be more focused on tangible solutions to COVID-19 that would reopen the country sooner, rather than arguing over the distance between tables on the sidewalks outside restaurants.

What do you think about this possible solution? ????
