Like many American pastimes that brought Americans of all colors and social backgrounds together in the past, the Olympics seems to have been destroyed by wokeness. Just take a look at the numbers. According to the Wall Street Journal, ratings for the Olympics Opening Ceremony fell 36% from 2016.

Could it be that Americans are finally fed up with the far-Left influenced ‘woke’ athletes talking about how much they hate America on Twitter and at various press conferences? Could it be that nobody wanted to tune in to watch US Women’s Soccer Team member Megan Rapinoe take a knee before getting roundly spanked by Sweden? My guess is…absolutely.

But this honestly brings me no joy. I’m not having fun with any of this, least of all the far-Left’s destruction of something that used to personally bring me a great deal of pleasure. The Olympics were something I looked forward to every four years; a chance for America to showcase its best and brightest, and assert our dominance on the world stage with our most talented champions.

Instead, we’re seeing phenom Naomi Osaka get knocked out in an early round, a struggling US Men’s Basketball Team (minus America’s Chief Whiner LeBron James), and wannabe “activi$ts” like Gwen Berry biding her time so that she can make another misguided statement at the expense of America, the National Anthem, and the American Flag.

Sure, it could be fun to dunk on all this as Conservatives, but we should actually be concerned. The destruction of yet another great American tradition should bring little joy to any of us. We should WANT this time to be one where Americans can come together and root for Team USA. We should want our sports to be a place that can be free of the divisive political rhetoric that now infects every aspect of our culture. But they are not.

If the failing ratings and general disinterest when it comes to the Tokyo Olympics can teach us anything, it’s this: America is in trouble when it comes to our traditions and the things that unite us. The falling ratings of the Olympics and of our sports, in general, is no laughing matter. We can only hope that we find a solution for this before it’s too late, and we can only reminisce about a time when Americans came together to root for Team USA at the Olympics…because it doesn’t happen anymore.
