WNBA Star Brittney Griner: it’s a ‘Crime’ to Ban Biological Men from Women’s Sports

WNBA player Brittney Griner, who became a household name after being arrested in Russia for illegal possession of drugs, is speaking out against recent legislation that requires athletes to compete in the category of their biological sex.

“I think it’s a crime honestly to separate someone for any reason. So, I definitely will be speaking up against that legislation and those laws that are trying to be passed, for sure.”

Griner’s comments came during a recent press conference when she was asked about the growing number of states that have passed laws aimed at protecting female athletes.

The issue of transgender athletes has been a hot topic in recent years, with many conservatives opposing their participation in sports. Conservatives know that this is a fast track to the erasure of women’s sports completely. Former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines has spoken out extensively about this issue, fighting heavily to protect female athletes from unfair competition.

It’s obvious to most people that the participation of transgender athletes in sports can lead to unfair advantages for biological women. Legislation restricting the competition of trans athletes among biological ones is not about discrimination or transphobia; it’s about ensuring fair competition. Sports associations must decide how to move forward with the growing number of transgender athletes. Essentially, there are two realistic solutions: either require athletes to compete among their assigned sex or create a separate category exclusively for transgender athletes.

Griner’s support for transgender athletes in sports is a misguided move that severely hurts women. It is likely that the WNBA will have a trans athlete competing among women soon, and it will be interesting to see if these female athletes change their tone when this happens.
