On a recent episode of TPUSA’s Freedom Papers, I spoke about our Founding Fathers’ evaluation of the United Netherlands. Our Founders observed how the United Netherlands suffered what Publius called a “natural death” in The Federalist Papers.
What does that mean? The structure of government in the United Netherlands was weak, leading to the slow decay of the country. The sovereign states that were joined together in a league-like confederacy, and to make any major moves as a whole, unanimity was required.
But unanimity was so difficult to achieve that states and the federal government of the Netherlands began taking actions without full consent… they basically just began ignoring their government’s rules.
