Off-campus UC Berkeley student housing has recently banned white people from common areas. The group operating the housing unit also requires members to “announce guests in the Guest Chat if they will be in common spaces with you and if they are white” per a photo shared initially by popular Twitter account Libs of TikTok.
How many times have we had to ask ourselves what the national reaction would be if this was said about blacks or any other subset of people? This is blatant racism, and it’s on the rise throughout the country.
The “Person of Color Theme House” is privately operated and is not affiliated to the university, and according to their website, “aims to provide housing to low-income, first generation, immigrant and marginalized students of color.” The group claims to be capable of housing up to 56 people at a time, and boasts of activities such as “Queer Circle, movie nights, and house dinners” in order to “create an inclusive and diverse environment within the house.”
However, inclusivity for the group stops at white individuals — the leaked rules emphasizes twice that whites are not welcome in common spaces. “Many POC members moved here to be able to avoid white violence and presence, so respect their decision of avoidance if you bring white guests,” the list reads.
In addition to banning white individuals, the house rules also explicitly advise members to “Avoid bringing parents/family members that express bigotry. Queer, Black, and Indigenous members should not have to avoid common spaces because of homophobic or racist parents/family members.”
For the past two plus years we have sat back and watched the country be torn apart by people who are convinced that there is racial inequality in this country. They want to believe that they are victims of a “white man’s world” — which couldn’t be further from the truth.
The left has made it abundantly clear that they want to erase history, this will only put us at risk of repeating the same mistakes. The cultural shift towards white-hatred is turning into an all out assault on American history and exceptionalism. According to the new worldview being propagated, success is no longer due to the hard work of an individual, but because of his or her skin color. It is a corrosive lie that is leading to a lower overall satisfaction with life in this country. Success does not have a racial bias, gender preference, and does not belong to only distinct group of people. Success belongs to any and everyone with the attitude to work relentlessly for it until it is achieved.
Break the narrative, break the ban.
