White House Tries to Change the Definition of Recession
Yesterday, President Biden was asked by FOX News White House Correspondent Peter Doocey about the economic state of the country. The President attempted to dismiss economic concerns, stating that the country “is not going into a recession.”
Historically, economists have defined a recession as two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth. In quarter one of this year, GDP growth was -1.6%. The next quarter’s GDP report is about to be released and if it is negative as expected, then our country is technically in a recession.
So how is the White House trying to downplay the recession? By changing the definition of the word itself.
Last week, the White House released this on their website:

Over the last few years the left’s strategy has been to change the agreed-upon and historical definition of words. We’ve seen this happen with the terms, “female,” “girl,” “anti-vaxxer,” and now, “recession.”
Of course, changing the definition doesn’t fix the economic woes of the country. The United States has been hit hard with net wage loss, massive inflation, and soaring gas prices from our lack of energy independence.
We aren’t heading towards a recession, we’re already in one.
The White House may think that changing the definition will trick Americans into believing that the economy isn’t actually in a downward spiral, but it really just makes our leaders look incompetent, and out of touch.
