What You Need to Know about This Hunting Season in Texas
Hunting season has officially begun in Texas and many other states nationwide! Here are a few helpful tips on how to get your license and get out in nature.
October 1st marked opening day for whitetail archery season across the state of Texas! Rifle season starts November 5th, and will coincide with archery until the end of season — which is in January, but the specific day depends on what zone you are in.
Texas is an over-the-counter state, meaning you can go to your local Walmart, sporting good store or anywhere else hunting licenses are sold and pick up your credentials to legally go hunting. Each license gives you tags to hunt a specific species of animal. A “Residential Texas” hunting license allows you hunt 5 whitetail, and 3 of those are allowed to be bucks, 2 Mule Deer (1 of these may also be a buck), and 4 turkey! There is also and option to buy endorsements. permits and certificates.
After purchasing your hunting license, make sure you check your local county’s rules and regulations. Even though your hunting license will allow for 5 whitetail, some counties only allow 1 tag to be used within that area.
