For those of you that weren’t aware, Ghislaine Maxwell was Jeffrey Epstein’s best friend and worked very closely with him on a wide variety of crimes. Soon after Jeffrey Epstein went to jail, they went after Ghislaine as well, and once caught, she was charged. While the case was scheduled to last six weeks long, the prosecution and defense team finished early, and Ghislaine was found guilty on five out of six charges.
Maxwell was found guilty on the counts of:
- sex trafficking charge
- conspiracy to entice a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts
- conspiracy to transport a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity
- transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity
- conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of minors
The count she was not found guilty of was the enticement of an individual under the age of 17 to travel with intent to engage in illegal sexual activity.
Throughout the trial, four women who accused Maxwell of luring them into Epstein’s mansions to have sex took the stand to tell their stories. Though Maxwell claimed her innocence, it was clear that she has spent her life damaging women left and right. She faces up to 65 years in jail for her crimes.
Epstein died in late 2019 while in custody, so people are speculating what will happen to Ghislaine over the next few weeks. While I never would wish death upon someone, it is very peculiar how these high-profile cases always seem to end in a “suicide.” What’s even more interesting to me though, is what happens now?
We know that Epstein and Ghislaine worked together to foster an entire sex trafficking ring. Epstein is now dead, and Ghislaine is in custody…but what about everyone else who turned a blind eye? What about those that actually had sex with minors? What about those that helped build Epstein’s island filled with underground tunnels and dungeons? What about those that flew on his plane? There’s so much left unanswered that I hope will eventually become public knowledge. But who knows?
