Visiting The College at Brockport, State University of New York TPUSA Chapter!
The month of October is coming to a close and my time traveling to college campuses has been nothing short of amazing. It has been a great opportunity to meet so many TPUSA students across the country. As a contributor, I love speaking with TPUSA chapters about politics and culture.
This past week I took a trip to upstate New York, a surreal experience for me because I spent a year attending Roberts Wesleyan College (a former Christian university that has now become very liberal). This trip was intended to speak with the students of The College at Brockport, State University of New York (SUNY Brockport). Upon arrival, I was greeted by the familiar face of Sarah Prentice, a Junior who started the chapter on her campus and still continually shows up to recruit and promote the chapter to students.
With New York being such a leftist state, conservative students have to deal with a number of issues on campus. I learned that the university redefines who is “fully vaccinated” to include students that receive the boosters. Many of the students are already vaccinated because it was required in order to return to school, but now they are labeled “unvaccinated” by the university because they don’t have their booster shots.
The day of the event featured the typical backlash that TPUSA is used to: flyers and signs were torn down when we were tabling on campus, adults and staff approached us and called us MAGA extremists, and we had students tell us they wanted to attend but they were too afraid to. Despite this, the event itself was nothing but a success. Turning Point USA is essential on college campuses to prevent our universities from becoming a nightmare of leftist authoritarianism.
My message in closing was simple and short “We don’t call this a culture war to play patty cake! This is a war and you are feeling it everywhere that warfare is used the hardest, in your mind, your emotions, your spirit, physically and socially. War is brutal and it pushes you to the limits to where you want to give up. But our forefathers were ready and willing to die for the freedom they dreamed of and many of them did before they even got to witness it and we need all of you young people through adversity and even the face of death itself to be willing to keep fighting and take a stand for the freedoms that you desire to see and have the next generations live in even if that means you never get to see it.”
The room erupted in shouts of joy and eagerness to keep fighting on and as a contributor that is what gives me the most joy seeing young people amped up to fight to take their country back. That is the best part of being able to go to campuses around the country is to ignite the fire of hope and stoke the flame of freedom in the hearts of young people to let them know they are not alone and that they are the next generation to make a change!
