According to notifications sent out by the University of Connecticut, all students attending the university must be fully vaccinated in order to participate in any courses during the Fall 2022 semester. And if that isn’t bad enough, the goalpost continues to be pushed back; the university now defines “fully vaccinated” as receiving vaccination shots AND boosters.

According to a message from the University:

“All students will be required to be fully vaccinated (full series plus booster) before starting the Fall 2022 semester.”

We are more than two years into the Covid-19 pandemic and at this point, most Americans have moved on from the mask-wearing, the social distancing, and the fear-mongering.

But there are some who refuse to give up on the harsh authoritarianism that comes with a “zero Covid” goal.

TPUSA was tipped from a source with an email sent from the university to a non-compliant student, which read in part:

“Students living on campus for the fall 2022 semester must be compliant with the University Covid vaccine policy. Students must submit Covid vaccine and booster information to their student health portal or must have an approved exemption. If you lived off-campus in the Spring 2022 semester and were granted a non-medical exemption to attend class, you may need to resubmit an exemption form for review. For questions regarding your current exemption status please contact the Dean of Students office.

As of today, you have not updated your vaccine or booster information. You have until July 1 to submit this information, or your fall housing assignment/application will be canceled. Please review the resources below on how to update your compliance status with the University.”

Of course, it’s easy to obtain the evidence that proves why this sort of policy is asinine. Using the CDC’s OWN DATA, Covid-19 is significantly less of a threat the younger someone is. A healthy college-aged individual (18-22) has not been at significant risk of falling severely ill or dying from Covid-19 since…. well, ever.

Plus the university is blatantly ignoring the fact that this far into the pandemic, a large percentage of individuals already have some degree of natural immunity from a previous Covid-19 infection.

UCONN’s vaccination policy is not rooted in science, it’s rooted in ignorance. Proponents of this mandate will argue that it is similar to MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) requirements students must adhere to before enrolling. The difference is that Covid-19 does not pose a significant threat to nearly all young people in the same way those diseases do.

Trying to live in a “zero Covid” world is impossible because mandates ignore this obvious fact: Because the vaccine is effective at preventing hospitalization and death, then an unvaccinated person does not pose a substantial risk to a vaccinated person. The percentage of people in Connecticut who are fully vaccinated and still contracted Covid-19? Only 8%.

So-called medical “experts” will try to use rising case counts as evidence, but case count doesn’t matter, hospitalizations and deaths do. According to Connecticut’s official state website, in the last seven days Connecticut has had 3,740 positive Covid-19 tests. The number of people who have died of Covid-19 over the last week in the state? One.

The bottom line is this: every person should have the right to make his or her own risk assessment when it comes to getting the Covid-19 vaccine and boosters.

The University of Connecticut is advocating against medical autonomy in order to fight a problem that is no longer a major concern. While they continue this authoritarian nonsense, the rest of the country is moving on.
