This past weekend, TPUSA hosted over 450 conservative student activists from the Southwest region of the United States! The room was packed, and the kids had great energy- even at 9 am! I was nervous they’d all still be pretty sleepy since I spoke so early Saturday morning, but they were PUMPED to be there and asked great questions.
I decided to use my time on stage to share some encouragement that being a conservative doesn’t necessarily mean you have to fit a certain stereotype. I LOVE all things pop culture and entertainment news even though the assumption from the left and Hollywood is that since I’m conservative, I must be super uncool and pop culture deficient. That couldn’t be further from the truth!
I also wanted to share a little bit of my story of leaving pop radio to start POPlitics. It was a huge risk! I had a successful morning show and a cushy job, but I couldn’t stand the idea of having to to censor myself and my beliefs in order to keep that position. It was worth the risk for me to change my career and move across the country to create a community for young women that felt disenfranchised by the conservative movement.
Whether it’s deciding to take a risk in class and debate your professor or share your beliefs in the break room at work- we will all face a moment in our life when it’s fight or flight when it comes to standing up for conservative values. I hope by sharing my story, I inspired our Southwest students to be BOLD and embrace BRAVE SZN.
