Turning Point USA Issues Official Statement in the Aftermath of University of New Mexico Incident
First of all, we’re grateful to the University Police, as well as the New Mexico State Police, who rushed in to protect Tomi, our TPUSA students, and all event staff. Conservatives should not need armed security and multiple police departments deployed to keep our kids and our speakers safe. Our Turning Point USA students now have to live with the aftermath of this security threat. Will they continue to be targeted when they walk to class and to their dorm rooms?
Sadly, what happened in New Mexico is far too common. The students and community organizations responsible for this mob that caused damage to the venue—and forced Tomi and her father to be barricaded in a safe room for 45 minutes—must be held accountable. We will only get more threats of violence unless there are serious consequences for this behavior. We are looking into all possible avenues to help achieve that end.
