With the number of apps that continue to roll out, it is good to know what platforms are going to serve you best for that target demographic you are going after.
Here is a quick rundown of which platforms best serve what audience:
LinkedIn: This platform is most popular within the 25-49 age range and is for business professionals. As a content creator, I can’t see myself posting all of my content on this platform but definitely think it is beneficial to have a profile showcasing milestones, awards, and the business side of things. Also, it is a good way to connect with brands and the people who are in charge of marketing for those brands.
Facebook: Even though this platform has been under fire for the past couple of years it is still the largest social media platform in the world as far as users. Facebook is popular when targeting Millennials and Generation X demographics. The majority of adults who use this platform have a college degree or higher with most making over $75,000 a year.
Instagram: The user base of Instagram consists of two-thirds of users being under the age of 35. They have 800 million registered users with 500 million logging on EVERY DAY! Instagram is all about aesthetics and building a community within the app.
YouTube: If you are wanting that global reach then YouTube is the way to go. According to Digital Marketing Institute, YouTube has 2 billion viewers globally with 85% of its traffic coming from outside the US even though 73% of Americans use the platform. Every day the platform sees OVER 5 billion video views. YouTube also has a higher reach to those between the ages of 18-49 than cable networks do in the United States.
Twitter: If you have straight-to-the-point witty thoughts this may be the platform you succeed on as a brand. In the US 22% of adults interact with Twitter every day and 45% of those Americans are between the ages of 18-24. However, even though there are 330 million monthly Twitter users, 53% of those users don’t post updates. Most of them scroll and interact with others through comments, retweets, likes, etc. If you’re in an industry that has regular updates or thoughts to comment about this would be a good platform to spend some time on.
Snapchat: If you are good at Instagram Stories and want to reach younger audiences, then you may as well just go ahead and start posting to snap stories. Personally, I think Snapchat is great to get views and enhance brand awareness by getting users to migrate to your other profiles. But, if you are looking to create a personal experience with followers then you may not want to focus on this social media platform.
Let’s see what platforms you use to post! Post your age or generation + what platform you use the most in the comments below!
