#When #Do #I #Use #Hashtags??
We’ve gone from using 30 hashtags a post to none, to using some here and there, and then when my mom uses # she says “Hey Kendall, I commented on your post and wrote pound LOL”…. What she means by saying “pound” is “#” and what she meant by “LOL” is “Lots of Love.”
So, to simply answer the question of when to use hashtags- it depends what platform you are using and the hashtags you use. Make sure your hashtags reach an audience that resonates with your brand.
Here is the average number of hashtags you should use for each platform. This is just a rough number as I came up with these numbers after reading and looking into Social Media Research put out by a couple different reputable media companies.
Twitter: Yes. Use 1-2 hashtags, 3 at the most that makes sense with the content you are posting. Specifically asking followers to retweet has resulted in more engagement for many users.
Instagram: I would say use hashtags on majority of your posts on Instagram. This is the best platform for hashtags. How many will vary from post to post. It’s been proven that normally more hashtags lead to more engagement, but use hashtags that will draw the right audience. Best reach is going to be around 10 to 11 per post, however, you can use up to 30. I would experiment around and see which hashtags and the number that works for you!
TikTok: Using hashtags and keywords in your captions is going to tell the algorithm what your video is about and share it with viewers accordingly. Use industry-specific and relevant hashtags to get your content shown to more people but don’t overdo the hashtags.
Facebook: Not necessary but using 1 or 2 can help get more exposure. Using too many on Facebook can make you look unprofessional.
A good thing to look more into if you want to step up your hashtag game in 2022 is the right hashtags for your brand.
