The person who attempted to commit a mass shooting at a famous megachurch was reportedly a transgender-identifying migrant with a criminal rap sheet and a love for Palestine, according to multiple reports in the days following the shooter’s death.
Genessee Ivonne Moreno, 36, brought a rifle to a famous Houston-based megachurch pastored by Joel Osteen. Moreno fired 12 shots, though the shooter only shot two people, according to National Review. Among the two shot was Moreno’s 5-year-old son, who is expected to recover.
Moreno was killed by police fire.
On Monday, local law enforcement confirmed that the word “Palestine” was written on the shooter’s gun. Some local media outlets initially reported that the rifle read, “Free Palestine.”
Moreno was reportedly an El Salvadorian migrant and was born a biological male under the name Jeffrey Escalante. Internet sleuths uncovered a long rap sheet of crimes committed by Moreno dating back to 2005. Most notably, Moreno assaulted a police officer in 2009.
It’s been reported that Moreno was an ardent Sen. Bernie Sanders supporter as well. Another Sanders supporter was linked to a violent shooting at a Congressional baseball game practice in 2017.
Dana Loesch, a popular Second Amendment advocate, noted that Moreno illegally obtained the rifle used in the shooting. Loesch said she found it “weird” how the gun control lobby is not making a bigger issue out of this.
“Weird how the gun control lobby isn’t going crazy over the murderous trans terrorist with an extensive record that includes weapons charges who illegally obtained the rifle they hate the most and slapped a pro-Hamas sticker on it,” Loesch said.
Many online and in conservative commentary speculate the story will remain underreported as the attack was committed by an individual with a protected identity status. Others speculate the story will remain underreported as the shooting was stopped short by “good guys with guns” nearby.
