When asked about his inspiration to become a police officer, Tatum recalled a pivotal ride-along with Officer Shawn Payne that changed his life. “I needed a job, and before I was hired I was inspired by a ride along I went on,” Tatum recalled. “The first time I saw a hero was with officer Shawn Payne. He was the officer I went on the ride along with.”
Tatum’s personal life has also heavily influenced his political perspectives. As a father, he says he became more focused and disciplined in prioritizing what needs to get done over what he may want to do. “It was a major shift in my priorities,” he reflected.
Tatum also revealed that his favorite American holiday is the 4th of July, a day that symbolizes the values this country should hold dear, such as freedom, unity, and patriotism.
