TPUSA Students Protest Masks in Schools Across Washington State

Yesterday, students across Washington State staged mask protests at their schools, expressing how fed up and done they are with these tyrannical and nonscientific mandates.

At Washougal High School, TPUSA students were kicked out of buildings and threatened with suspension for not complying with the Washington State mask mandate. Turning Point USA student activists remained peaceful and courageous, not backing down to the faculty’s demands, resulting in several other classmates joining their protest outside the high school.

The students are demanding change, stating they will not return to class until the mask mandate is lifted.

TPUSA chapter President at Washougal High School, Maddy Oerding, explained how her two options from school administrators were to leave immediately or face suspension when she tried entering the school building Wednesday morning. When asked what she wants to come from this protest, Oerding said she hopes Washington will soon follow Oregon’s removal of their mask policy and that the protest makes a big impact showcasing that students are done with the mandates.

Ten miles away, TPUSA students at Union High School also staged a protest against wearing masks. One brave student had a message to share with his peers. He said, “When you speak up for your freedom, your voice is going to be heard. It doesn’t matter if it’s in a parking lot or inside a school, it’s going to be heard at the end of the day. Don’t be scared, don’t shy away.”

Although they were met with counter-protesters, the student activists held the line, stayed peaceful, and backed their beliefs with scientific data. TPUSA field reporter Katie Daviscourt documented the students describing what they dealt with inside the classroom. One student explained how she was graded on wearing a mask and docked 100 points because she was not wearing it properly. Another TPUSA student explained that her administrator told her she was selfish for not being vaccinated, to which she responded, “you’re selfish for making me do that to my body.”

The mask protest continued throughout the day! Students at Hockinson High School nearby were met with a similar dilemma, resulting in the students staging a protest outside their school once being kicked out.

Other schools in Washington that held protests this week include Battleground High School, South Bend High School, Ridgefield High School, and Amboy Middle School, among many others.

With Washington State being one of the last states in the country to do away with the mask policy, it is no surprise that these students are fed up and want it to end. It is time for the state leaders to start putting kids first and for teachers to educate them instead of forcing them to comply.

Keep it up TPUSA students! This is how change begins! Everyone at TPUSA HQ supports you and will have your back!
