Turning Point USA student member Lauren Gollofon is the superb definition of a “grassroots activist.” Lauren took it upon herself to reach out to the high school principals in her local school district once she found out students were not reciting the Pledge of Allegiance daily in the classroom. Montana House Bill 543 states that the Pledge of Allegiance is to be recited daily in the state’s public schools, which was being violated throughout high schools in Bozeman, Montana.

Within a week of her advocacy, local schools implemented reciting the Pledge of Allegiance daily.

When asked why saying the Pledge of Allegiance is so important, Lauren expressed that “patriotism is on the decline in the United States. When students say the pledge of allegiance, they’re acknowledging the freedom and the values and also everybody who’s died and fought for that flag.”

Congressman Matthew Rosendale of Montana commended Lauren on the House floor when he heard of her advocacy in Bozeman. Rep. Rosendale said in his speech, “On behalf of all Montanans, I want to sincerely thank Lauren Gollofon for her leadership, community activism, and her dedication to the core principles that this country makes us great.”

Lauren issued a statement shortly after her public acknowledgment from her state Representative, saying:

“Requiring the pledge of allegiance to be said in school is so important because it’s a recognition of patriotism and of those who’ve fought and died for our country. I’m glad I was able to play a part in making sure Montana schools are saying the pledge, and I’m grateful to Congressman Rosendale for the commendation on the House Floor.”

Lauren is a senior at the Liberty Online Academy, the President of the Gallatin Valley Turning Point Activism Hub, and a former student of Bozeman High School.
