TPUSA Chapter Member Stunned by Man in Planet Fitness Women’s Locker Room
A Pennsylvania Turning Point USA (TPUSA) chapter member and high school student was shocked to see what appeared to be a male exit a restroom stall in the women’s locker room at her local Planet Fitness.
The high school student, Mary Edwards, was working out after school at Planet Fitness in Downingtown, Pennsylvania when she saw a male in the female locker room. She snapped a photo and immediately went to the front desk to speak with the manager of the branch. The manager reportedly repeated the same platitude as many other Planet Fitness employees have when faced with a similar situation, gym-goers may use whichever facility best “represents” their gender.
The student-led TPUSA chapter shared the image with a Downingtown resident-run Instagram account which posted the photo taken by Edwards. The post was then re-shared by Libs of TikTok, garnering further public attention. The students have shared several gym alternatives in the area and have reportedly encouraged approximately 100 people to cancel their Planet Fitness memberships locally.
TPUSA previously reported on Planet Fitness’ locker room policy in 2023 after being contacted by a concerned female gym-goer who was confronted by a transgender-identifying male in the locker room of her local gym. The policy, which isn’t widely advertised, states “All members will have access to restroom and locker room facilities that correspond to their sincerely held, self-reported gender identity to the extent permitted by applicable law.”
Last week, the fitness chain saw a $400 million drop in valuation mere days after a video went viral of a woman describing her encounter with a male who was shaving in plain view in the women’s locker room with a minor present. Alaskan resident Patricia Silva was banned from her local Planet Fitness after sharing details regarding the incident online.
