Back in 1934 Franklin D Roosevelt signed the migratory bird hunting stamp act. This act also known as the duck stamp act required that all waterfowl hunters 16 years of age and older must annually buy a federal duck stamp.
Since President Roosevelt implemented this act approximately $800 million dollars have gone into that fund to protect more than 5.7 million acres of Habitat.
Wetlands do a number of things like maintain ground water supplies, stores flood waters, and provides nurseries for many food sources, in addition to providing habitat for wildlife.
98% of the purchase price from buying federal duck stamps goes to conservation by buying and leasing wetlands, resulting in more than 5.7 million acres of wetlands over the last 85 years!
