The Patriot Flyers of the TPUSA chapter at The University of Dayton
Last week it was a cold weather in the city of Dayton, Ohio. But I was greeted with warm smiles and laughter from the TPUSA chapter at the University of Dayton. I met with student president Trey Mullins and his sharp, polished executive board who all came dressed in their Sunday finest for the formal event.
When I first arrived, the students quickly turned the lecture hall from a classroom to their chapter event space in a matter of minutes and continued to pass out flyers to EVERY human that passed by (led by field rep Michayla Barga). The students of this chapter, like many across the nation, have been in a struggle on campus against faculty, peers, and social groups that still don’t accept the presence of Turning Point USA on campus. But this event was different.
This event was insightful and informative, with laughter and long moments of silence. But the best part was the Q&A that followed. In attendance were a few students that normally disagree with the stance of TPUSA. But these students were calm, respectful, and brought in interesting perspectives to have a discussion with. By the end, they left peacefully after interacting with the other chapter members over pizza.
Like every event I attend, I always take time to prepare and be as active on campus with the students, whether that is helping table, showing up early to set up, or staying after to hang out with those that attended.
Although the students on this campus are small in number, they make up for in drive and determination. This is exactly what this generation needs more of! The present environment of college campuses may be bleak, but the future is bright for the conservative movement. The student body here at Dayton has a bright future ahead of them because of this TPUSA chapter that has been a staple for young conservatives in Ohio.
