I am here is Washington D.C. celebrating the first March for Life in a post-Roe world. On January 22, 1974 thousands of pro-life advocates peacefully gathered in the United States capital and marched to show their support for the right to life — upon which all other human rights rest on.

Each year, thousands of participants would make their annual pilgrimage to D.C. exemplifying just how many people care about the issue of abortion. For 47 years, those who marched braved harsh and sometimes violent counter-protestors, cold temperatures, even blizzards to show their undying support for life, and never gave up on the cause.

“In 1973 when Roe was first observed by SCOTUS, 30 states held that abortion was illegal in all stages. Roe has been criticized as a massive overreach by the court, infringing upon states rights to determine their own laws regarding reproduction.”

Last year, their efforts finally paid off.

The Supreme Court’s final ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health ultimately held that there was no right to abortion provided by the U.S. Constitution, which subsequently overturned 50 years of precedent set by two cases, Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. This landmark decision sent the issue of abortion back to the states or the federal legislature to either prohibit, restrict, or authorize.

“It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”

This year, there are once again tens of thousands of men and women of all ages attending the March for Life, who are more committed and encouraged than ever to standing up for life, for supporting mothers, and for being a voice for the voiceless.

In recent years, the narrative from abortion advocates has dramatically shifted from “safe, legal, and rare” to abortion on demand without apology, even throughout all nine months of pregnancy. The lack of education given to young girls is regarding unplanned pregnancy is a serious problem in the U.S., and so many lives could be changed or saved if more people boldly spoke about some basic truths surrounding abortion.

Abortion is not the only choice, there are thousands and thousands of crisis pregnancy centers nationwide that are able and willing to support mothers during and after pregnancy. These centers run on volunteers who are willing to help the women in their community, their neighbors who are in need of encouragement.

A baby’s heartbeat can be detected just 6 weeks into the pregnancy, and a number of studies have found that at the 10-12 week mark, the baby in utero can experience taste, smell, and pain. During an abortion procedure, the baby is never administered any form of pain medication or anesthetic, because many abortionists wold not like to admit the humanity and reality of the child in the womb.
