Tesla Sales in Europe Drop Almost 50% Over the Past Year

Tesla’s sales in Europe have dropped nearly 50% since last April, prompting the belief that the involvement of Elon Musk in the Trump Administration is the cause for such a drop. This April, sales amounted to 7,261, whereas last April they were 14,228, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association.

Despite Tesla’s drop in sales, overall electric vehicle sales rose 27.8% in Europe.

Tesla’s European decline occurs as Elon Musk moves to lessen his time in his advising role with the White House in order to focus on his private companies, as Tesla’s revenue significantly decreased during the first quarter of 2025.

According to Tesla North, in Europe, “Tesla’s competitors are thriving. German EV sales jumped by nearly 43%, while Belgium and the Netherlands also saw gains. Other automakers, like SAIC Motor and Volkswagen Group, reported significant growth, capturing more of the EV market that Tesla once dominated.”

Tesla North also reported that from “January to April, Tesla registrations fell by nearly 39% year-over-year.”

According to the New York Post, “Tesla shares were trading nearly 5% higher on Tuesday.”

Elon Musk will be scaling back his time with the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to focus on his private companies, as Tesla stock and sales go through a considerable decrease.

On Saturday Musk declared the redirection of his professional focus:

“Back to spending 24/7 at work and sleeping in conference/server/factory rooms,” Musk posted on his X. “I must be super focused on 𝕏/xAI and Tesla (plus Starship launch next week), as we have critical technologies rolling out.”

President Trump announced potential 50% tariffs on all European goods, which may have an impact on Tesla sales. However, as of Tuesday, tariffs will be negotiated between both parties, and possibly canceled or altered to the mutual benefit of the US and EU:

“I have just been informed that the E.U. has called to quickly establish meeting dates,” Trump said on Truth Social. “This is a positive event, and I hope that they will, FINALLY, like my same demand to China, open up the European Nations for Trade with the United States of America.”

“Turning Point USA’s commitment to the fight for freedom on campus is more important now than ever.”
