TPUSA Frontlines reporter Jonathan Choe covered the background of the man who is suspected to have fired at two National Guardsmen in Washington, DC on Thanksgiving Day.

One Guardsman, Sarah Beckstrom, ended up dying from the gunshots, while the other, Andrew Wolfe, remains in critical condition.

According to the White House, the suspected shooter, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, also an Afghan national, grew radicalized during his time in the US.

“He was brought into the country by the Biden administration through Operation Allies Welcome,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem told ABC News on Sunday. “And then, maybe vetted after that, but not done well, based on what the guidelines were put forward by President Biden. And now, since he’s been here, we believe he could have been radicalized in his home community and in his home state.”

ABC News also reports that Lakanwal “worked with the CIA during the US war in Afghanistan.”

Frontlines discovered that Lakanwal and his family “received extensive support from this community as they transitioned to the US.”

According to Choe, Lakanwal’s family was hosted by a family in Bellingham, Washington, after he was admitted into the US during the Biden administration’s withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.

Choe went to the hosting family’s home to ask the residents questions about their former guest, but was not provided with any answers and asked to leave.

Lakanwal’s current apartment has dents on the front door, which federal authorities tried to break through, according to neighbors. The whereabouts of his family are unknown.

Lakanwal now faces first-degree murder charges after the death of Beckstrom.
