England’s Wembley Stadium (where an NFL game was played in 2024) featuring an end zone (left) stating End Racism.
The end zones at Caesar’s Superdome will not feature the phrase “End Racism” etched on them for Super Bowl LIX (59) on February 9.
Instead, “Choose Love” will appear at the top of the end zone where the out-of-bounds line is located. This phrase has already appeared on some end zones throughout the 2024 season.
After its regular season debut in the 2020 season, “End Racism”– together with its accompanying phrase “It Takes All of Us” — appeared on the end zones in the past three Super Bowls (Super Bowl 58, 57, and 56). Along with “Choose Love,” “It Takes All of Us” will appear on the other end zone.
According to Fox News, “the recent tragedies that have occurred in the U.S. since the start of 2025, including the terror attack in New Orleans, wildfires in the Los Angeles area and the deadly plane crash near a Washington, D.C., airport” were an influence on the decision.
This also comes after President Trump signed Executive Orders curtailing DEI initiatives in the U.S.
However, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell maintains the NFL’s DEI policies have been advantageous to the league.
In a Monday press conference that covered a variety of topics, the NFL Commissioner defended the league’s DEI efforts:
“We got into diversity efforts because we felt it was the right thing for the National Football League, and we’re going to continue those efforts because we’ve not only convinced ourselves, I think we’ve proven ourselves that it does make the NFL better.”
Goodell continued:
“So, we’re not in this because it’s a trend to get in or a trend to get out of it, our efforts are fundamental in trying to attract the best possible talent into the National Football League, both on and off the field, as I said previously. And we see that. We see how it’s benefited the National Football League. And so, I think we’ll continue those efforts. I think it’s also clearly a reflection of our fan base and our communities and our players.”
These policies, Goodell believes, are consistent “with the current [U.S. presidential] administration as well as the last administration.”
The Philadelphia Eagles will take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, February 9, at 6:30pm EST. Kendrick Lamar will be performing at the halftime show.
